How to Achieve a Natural ‘No Makeup’ Look

How to Achieve a Natural ‘No Makeup’ Look

To achieve an effortless makeup look, you might find yourself wanting to develop a more stripped-back routine. Instead of contouring and applying a bold lip, building upon your natural beauty is now a much loved look.

‘No makeup’ makeup is all about sunkissed skin, rosy cheeks and bright eyes. The objective is simply to highlight your natural beauty and let your skin breathe. But, there are still some techniques and tips you need to follow to pull off a believable yet flawless no makeup look.

For tips on how to do a natural makeup look the right way, read on.

1)   Prepare your skin

The first step to a natural makeup look is a healthy and hydrated base.

●     Prep your skin the night before with our Pure Shots Night Reboot Serum. This will have you waking up looking naturally refreshed and therefore requiring minimal makeup

●     Cleanse your skin with a hydrating cleanser and wash it away with lukewarm water

●     Use a gentle toner to create an even surface across the skin

●     Apply your daytime moisturiser, opting for a lightweight formulation

●     Finish off the skin with a watery sunscreen.

2)   Prime your base

A well-primed base is the secret to effortlessly beautiful skin. Primers help to create a barrier between your skin and your makeup products, protecting your skin in the long run. We love going in with the Touche Éclat Blur Primer Gold, which hydrates and illuminates the skin with apricot kernel oil and passiflora oil to help your makeup glide on smoothly.

3)   Skip the foundation

The key to natural glowy makeup is to put away the heavy foundation and pick up some concealer instead. Opt for the Touche Éclat Blur Perfector, which blurs imperfections while providing a rosy glow. Then, touch up any problem areas with the Touche Éclat High Cover Concealer Pen, a richer concealer that’s capable of covering dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles without any cakiness.

At the same time, make sure that you don’t over-conceal. Letting a few imperfections peep through your makeup actually reinforces your natural appeal. You might even want to go in again after you’ve completed your makeup to enhance your freckles or beauty spots.

4)   Swap contour for bronzer

Sculpt your face without the heavy contour by using the Sahariennes Bronzing Stones bronzer. This creamy powder offers a natural glow, so you can truly say you woke up like this.

While you’re at it, why not swipe your bronzer over your eyelids too to create a natural eyeshadow look.

5)   Go for glow

Glowiness is an essential component of any natural makeup look. Swipe the Touche Éclat Radiant Touch Highlighter Pen across the tip of your nose, your Cupid’s bow and your cheekbones for a lit-from-within look.

While all highlighter formulations provide glow, a liquid highlighter like the Radiant Touch Highlighter Pen will blend in more seamlessly with the rest of your makeup.

6)   Keep your lashes minimal

Put the fake eyelashes away and apply a light coat of mascara instead to obtain a wide-eyed, fluttery look. Our Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils is a great pick, creating dramatic volume without any clumpiness.

Another way to work natural eye makeup is to apply clear mascara or even go without any mascara at all, using only a lash curler to pump up your lashes.

7)   Choose balm over lipstick

Finally, swipe our Top Secrets Lip Perfector over your pout for a glossy look that also helps your lips stay hydrated in the long run. If applying colour, opt for a shade that matches closely with your natural colour.

The importance of great skin for your natural makeup look

The most important element of your no makeup look isn’t the makeup products you use. It’s actually having healthy, naturally glowy skin in the first place. This way, you won’t need to apply much makeup at all and be able to keep your skin healthier in the long run.

Achieving healthy, lit-from-within skin

●     Support your skin barrier

Your skin barrier is the outermost layer of your skin, responsible for keeping hydration in. Moisturisers that contain ceramides or hyaluronic acid are great for strengthening the skin barrier.

●     Exfoliate wisely

Sloughing off dead skin cells keeps your skin looking glowy. Weekly exfoliation is best for most skin types, with exfoliation becoming more important as you age, as your cell turnover slows down. Make sure not to over-exfoliate, however, as this can cause damage to the skin barrier.

●     Massage your face

Facial massage has long been popular in Eastern cultures, known for its ability to drain toxins and boost your skin’s glow. Use a face roller or gua sha tool, ideally made from jade or rose quartz, to stimulate the skin, working from the inner parts of your face to its outer edges.

●     Eat antioxidant-rich foods

Foods that are rich in polyphenols such as berries, grapes and nuts help to protect skin cells from UV damage, keeping them healthier over time.

●     Drink more water

Last but not least, it’s important to fill up on water to hydrate your skin from within. Proper hydration promotes skin cell regeneration, so aim for around two litres of water a day.
