Inspired by the emblematic creations of Monsieur Saint Laurent, Le Vestiaire Des Parfums is a collection of fragrances that each interprets a centrepiece of the couturier’s wardrobe. This exclusive collection of signature scents with couture sensibility truly encapsulates the Yves Saint Laurent style and spirit.
Le Vestiaire Des Parfums – Jumpsuit
In the 1920s, artistic avant-gardes such as the Italian Futurists and the Bauhaus had already saluted the utilitarian jumpsuit as the uniform of the future. In 1968, the functional overall of car racers, parachutists – hence its name, the “jump” suit - ascended into the next level of high luxury.
Daring, dashing yet unexpectedly elegant, Yves Saint-Laurent’s first short evening jumpsuit in black silk jersey was acclaimed by the fashion press as a bold new fashion statement. The couturier had discovered the true beauty of a utilitarian garment, turning it into an archetype of fashion.
To translate the jumpsuit's empowering feeling, YSL Beauty decided to mix two top ingredients: the magnolia flower and the bergamot. The citrusy brightness of bergamot picks up when magnified by the full radiance of magnolia flower, in an echo to the house's vibrantly coloured jumpsuits.
Fresh as dawn, bergamot opens the scent. A vibrant, zesty, peppery citrus essence, its floral note is perfectly complemented by the green, incisive crispness of petitgrain bigarade, the distilled essence of bitter orange tree leaves and twigs.
After this sparkling introduction, the star of the fragrance, magnolia, leaps onto the stage. With its complex, yet diaphanous facets, the precious essence is almost a perfume in itself. Bergamot picks up its citrusy brightness. A dewy, petally peony accord underlines its rosy freshness. A heady, deliciously fruity absolute of jasmine grandiflorum enhances its intoxicating white floral trail…
As JUMPSUIT strides into its drydown, the fragrance stays as luminous as ever with a velvety peach accord that rounds out this vibrant floral bouquet’s fruity accents.
“I remember a stay in Portofino that has remained imprinted in my olfactory memory. My hotel overlooked a grove of magnolia tree in full blossom on a very steep slope that drove straight into the sea. Intrepid and fascinated, I leaned over to savor their fresh, floral scent. A marvel! This instant was a great inspiration to me when I composed JUMPSUIT.”
